Sonic 3 A.I.R. (Angel Island Revisited)
A fan-made remaster of Sonic 3 & Knuckles running on the Oxygen engine. It plays the original layouts at widescreen and 60 fps, with a remastered soundtrack and mod support.
¶ Requirements
- ROM: Sonic 3 & Knuckles (a combined ROM, or Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles that the setup can join).
- Data: the game's own assets are extracted from your ROM at setup; nothing is bundled.
- Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. The Switch build is unmaintained.
¶ Install
- Download the release from sonic3air.org and extract it.
- Start the game and point it at your Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM.
- Choose a save slot; the launcher keeps separate profiles and mod sets.
¶ What it adds
- Widescreen and 60 fps, with the camera widened rather than stretched.
- Remastered soundtrack by the A.I.R. team, selectable against the original.
- Mod support: scripts, sprites and level edits loaded from the mods folder.
- Quality of life: time attack, level select and improved special stages.
- Cross-platform saves through the same profile format on desktop.
¶ Known limitations
- A fan project: it needs your ROM and is not affiliated with SEGA.
- Some older mods need updating for current releases.
- The Web and Switch builds lag behind the desktop releases.
- The rating is provisional.
