Eternal Darkness Recomp
A native recompilation of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem built from your own European GameCube disc, with widescreen, high-resolution rendering and a full options menu.
¶ Requirements
- Disc: the European release,
GEDP01, as.isoor.gcm. The USA disc (GEDE01) is refused by the launcher and the installers. - Optional: 7-Zip, Keka or Ark only if you want the 2.9 GB HD texture pack.
- Platforms: Windows x64, macOS 13+ on Apple silicon, Linux and Steam Deck x86-64.
¶ Install
- Linux: unpack the
tar.gzto a writable folder, put the disc image besideplay.sh, and run it. On a Deck, addplay.shas a non-Steam game. - Windows: unzip outside Program Files, drop the disc image into
dump/, runplay.bat. - macOS: move the app to Applications, right-click Open the first time, then drop the disc image on its window.
- The first start translates the disc and builds the game (about a minute or two); later starts are instant.
¶ Features and options
- Video: 4:3 or 16:9, widescreen HUD, per-resolution scaling, fullscreen, FPS counter.
- Camera: Original, plus beta third-person and first-person modes on the right stick.
- Shadows: upscaled baked light maps with edge-directed doubling, or the original look.
- Audio: music and effects volume, audio buffer size; the game's Audio Mode is read from the memory-card SRAM.
- Controls: Original (GameCube layout), Modern (RT attack, LT aim, stick-click sprint and creep) or fully Custom; dead zone, vibration, and prompts redrawn with Xbox, PlayStation or Switch icons.
- Saves: memory card in slot A and optional slot B, quick save on
2and load on1, plustools/gci.pyto import and export GCI, MaxDrive and GameShark saves. - HD textures: optional 4x texture pack, with a small PAL supplement for the menus the pack misses.
¶ Known limitations
- PAL only. There is no USA or Japanese disc support.
- Third-person and first-person cameras are labelled beta.
- The HD texture pack is a separate 2.9 GB download, not bundled.
- 0.9.5 is still pre-1.0, and it has not been independently verified; the rating is provisional.
